Life in Ankara
Ankara is situated in the middle of the western part of the Anatolian Plateau, about 450 kilometres east of Istanbul. The city's altitude is around 850 metres. It is located in the centre of a bowl formed by bare, rugged hills. The climate is hot and dry during the summer (the nights are usually cool) but one must be prepared for a long winter (December-April) of intermittent snow and ice with temperatures at times falling as low as minus 25 degrees Celsius.
