Bursa is beautiful city with loads of mosques, tombs, hot spring public baths, and trees (which gives Bursa it’s alternate name, Yesil Bursa (Green Bursa)). Believed by most to be the first capital of the Ottoman Empire. In actual fact, Yenişehir, a little town not far from Bursa (and is currently part of the Bursa’s province), was the first capital established by the Ottoman founder, Osman I or Osman Gazi. It was his son, Orhan Gazi, who conquered Bursa from the Byzantine and established it as capital in 1326. Bursa is an easy day trip from Istanbul (around 2 hours by car) or a long weekend trip from Ankara (4-5 hours by car). Open the attached file for a comprehensive list of things to do, see and eat.
