social groups/activities
These are some groups and activities that our families based in Istanbul have recommended.
If you do one hamam only in Istanbul, go to Kiliç Ali Paşa Hamamı. The building was built in 16th century, the front desk service speaks English, the place is super clean and super professional. And you can make a reservation online or via email.
Across from Tophane tram station and within walking distance from Galata Tower and Modern Art Museum. Ladies only hours 8am-4pm. Men only hours 4:30-11:30pm. 190TL which is expensive but so worth it. Kids under 6yo also get a scrub for free. http://kilicalipasahamami.com https://www.facebook.com/nhalinh3/posts/10154669594805916

For those who celebrate Christmas and will be in Istanbul during this period, this article is for you. Take note that it is an old article (2014), so check with the mentioned churches, to confirm the timings of their Christmas mass and services.
https://www.dailysabah.com/life/2014/12/23/celebrating-a-christmas-in-turkey One of our families has recommended the following social groups and communities in Istanbul:
International Women of Istanbul (a social organisation for women from all over the world which provides opportunities to meet and participate in classes and activities. Its website also lists other associations and groups in Istanbul) http://www.madeeasierguides.com/groups-and-associations-in-istanbul.html (My Merhaba website lists a range of associations and groups in Istanbul with links to their websites) Facebook pages for Istanbul expats are good resources for asking questions, getting local news and finding new friends. Sites recommended include Foreign Women of Istanbul (Women only), Aussies living in Turkey, Foreign Women of Turkey and Cook’s Corner for Expats in Turkey. |
