Farmer’s Market (Pazar)| Open on Tuesdays, Fridays (the main day and nicknamed ‘Jumpa’ by the locals) and Sundays. A huge, under tarpaulin covered market that starts from around 9 until late afternoon. Grocery shopping | The three main grocery chains are Carre Four (1km from city centre), Migros (Burda17), and Kipa. Umuysal is also another grocery chain but usually smaller and found in the residential suburbs. Sometimes you may be able to find hard to find items like quinoa, chia seeds, sweet potatoes, soya sauce, tamari sauce, 100% peanut butter at Carre Four, Migros and KIpa. These items are not always in stock so if you find them, stock up while you can. These items usually aren’t cheap either as they are imported. At Carre Four, you will also find environmentally friendly cleaning products (laundry detergent, dishwashing detergent). Soda washing powder (Soda Matik) can also be found in most grocery stores. There are two malls which has only been around for a few years – 17Burda and Troy Park. If you are after a Turkish made piece of garment, Ipekyol (translated as Silk Road) is a good Turkish brand with well made pieces, and located at Burda17. Mado café and OT café (info above) is also at 17Burda. If you have kids, 17Burda usually have either a rock climbing wall, trampoline or ice skating rink (which is actually plastic, not ice, flooring). Troy Park has an indoor play gym for times when weather doesn’t permit outdoor play.
