Apparently the best place for coffee in Canakkale with a Sydney trained barista is Kahve Rengi.
There is a great vegetarian café in Canakkale called Erk restaurant with delicious gözleme.
Farmer’s Market (Pazar)| Open on Tuesdays, Fridays (the main day and nicknamed ‘Jumpa’ by the locals) and Sundays. A huge, under tarpaulin covered market that starts from around 9 until late afternoon. You will find everything from fruit and veg, honey, nuts, olive oil, dense village bread (koy ekmek), household goods, and even cheap clothing and shoes. It is worth a visit to soak up the market community vibe. Canakkale are known for their fresh produce, and green-house farming method. If you want organic, look for the smaller and irregular shaped varieties. Or lady birds and critters are a sure sign too.
There are two malls which has only been around for a few years – 17Burda and Troy Park. If you are after a Turkish made piece of garment, Ipekyol (translated as Silk Road) is a good Turkish brand with well made pieces, and located at Burda17. Mado café and OT café (info above) is also at 17Burda. If you have kids, 17Burda usually have either a rock climbing wall, trampoline or ice skating rink (which is actually plastic, not ice, flooring). Troy Park has an indoor play gym for times when weather doesn’t permit outdoor play.
Artemis Pide ve Kavahltı Sarayi | Located in residential suburb of Güzel Yalı where the wealthier folks live, it is about half an hour from town. This café sits right on the beach with beautiful views over the water. 286 Seafood Restaurant | Another good seafood restaurant that also serves a very popular kahvalti spread on the weekends. Try the sugarless, almond with honey flavour (şekersiz bademli ballı dondurma). Then walk or catch a taxi about 1.5km from the Eceabat ferry port. Very sleek and modern set up. You can also buy preserved olives, jam and Turkish cook books in their shop. Akava Café and Lounge Bar| If you are after burgers, pizzas, and pasta, this is the place to be. It’s clienteles are generally the young university crowd. Interior is not as sleek as Akava, but it’s a more established. The non-smoking area is at the back of the café which is generally dark and dingy. Otherwise you will be given the plasticky cone. You get three flavours. Tea is 1TL a small glass, and you can bring along snacks to accompany your tea. A simit man will usually be found within the vicinity if you feel a little peckish. Located at the other end of the Kordon from the ferry port. But go a couple of shops down the pedestrian strip and get yourself a kir pidesi for 1TL (simply a pide bread with fillings of either mince, potatoes or spinach). Yalova Seafood Restaurant| The best seafood restaurant in town with stunning views of the port and Dardenelles. Also the most expensive too.| Fevzipaşa Mahallesi, Gümrük Sk. This bakery, 240 Degrees, does artisanal breads, based in Istanbul but can do delivery by courier - which sounds weird I know but my friend here in Çanakkale has been ordering her breads from them and delivered to her workplace with no problem. We have yet to try.
